KUALA LUMPUR, June 28- The proposal by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to set up a National Consultation Council on Unity received positive reaction from MPs from Barisan Nasional (BN) and the opposition.
Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican (BN-Kepala Batas) said the council could find points of convergence between people of various races post 13th general election (GE13).
“We want the opposition to let bygones be bygones. The people have made their decision, do not drag the people again.”
Tan Sri Annuar Musa (BN-Ketereh) said the proposal was a gesture of the government’s open stance.
“However, it depends on the participants and their sincerity. If it is only of political nature, it will not take us anywhere.”
Yesterday, Najib said the government plans to set up a National Consultation Council on Unity to achieve national reconciliation.
However, he said to achieve national reconciliation, the opposition must accept the result of GE13.
Describing it as a good move, Karpal Singh (DAP-Bukit Gelugor) said it was up to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to take the next step.
“Its up to Anwar Ibrahim to discuss the terms before we can join the council,” he said.
Dr Hatta Ramli (PAS-Kuala Krai) said he was willing to consider joining the the council after knowing the terms.
Nasrudin Hassan (PAS-Temerloh) said PAS was always willing to cooperate with the government if it was for the good of the people.
