MARAN, June 28- The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development through its Women Development Department (JPW) has taken various efforts to ensure the women’s welfare and their well-being in this country will countinue to be enhanced.
The Pahang Women and Family Development, Communication and Multimedia Committee chairman Datuk Shahaniza Shamsuddin (photo) said in Pahang alone, over 10,000 women had joined the advocacy programmes organised by the ministry since 2002 to understand their rights better.
“These advocacy programmes have been conducted on several aspects including civil law and sharia, defence and protection techniques and on managing emotional stress.
“Other advocacy programs have also been carried out at the community level, namely Gender Sensitivity Seminar, Legal Literacy, Anti-Crime Women, Save Yourself, Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls Seminar, Emotional Wellbeing programme and Mind Transformation programme,” she said, here yesterday.
Shahaniza, when opening a seminar on Anti-Crime Women with the theme ‘Respect Women’ at the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Jengka said the government was very concerned and serious pertaining to violence against women.
“This commitment was translated into the enactment of policies and legislation and also through various initiatives to ensure efforts in preventing violence against women were carried out in a holistic manner,” she said.
