NEW DELHI, July 1- AirAsia will start Kuala Lumpur-Madurai route this year, its group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said.
“Having met Dr E. M. Sudarshan Nachiappam, Minister of the State, I can confirm that Airasia will start Kuala Lumpur Madurai this year,” he said in social media website yesterday.
Madurai is a temple town and the third largest city in the Southern State of Tamil Nadu.
Fernandes is in India to drum up the company’s entry into the Indian market.
Besides Chennai, Tamil Nadu, he will also be visiting Cochin, Kerala, India’s financial capital, Mumbai, in Maharashtra and Delhi.
“Got to say Chennai is a great city,” he said, adding that it would be a great place for a football club, Chennai Rangers.
This is his maiden trip after his company joined hands with the Tata Group and Arun Bhatia of Telestra Tradeplace to launch a low-cost airline in a 49:30:21 partnership.
