KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 – The ‘Rakan Muda’ programme to enhance the potential of youths as future leaders is still actively implemented by the Youth and Sports Ministry and has garnered the participation of many youths, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the programme, launched in 1994, remained an important agenda to meet the need for youth lifestyle activities in the country.
“Last year, 10,543 youths participated in the ‘Gaya Hidup Rakan Muda’ programme while 1,000 took part in the ‘Jiran Muda’ programme. The ‘Rakan Muda Sukarelawan’ activity saw the participation of 54,544 youths,” he said when replying to a supplementary question, from Anuar Abd Manap (BN-Sekijang), on the status of the Rakan Muda programme.
Khairy, who is the MP for Rembau, said the Rakan Muda programme would be improved from time to time to ensure that youths from all communities, including those in Sabah and Sarawak, participated in it.
Replying to the original question, from Rubiah Wang (Kota Samarahan-BN), on the youth programmes organised by the ministry, Khairy said these included the 3K Bestari programme with a smart partnership concept associated with leadership, skills and entrepreneurship development.
