lau-leeKUANTAN, July 4- Damak MCA assemblyman Datuk Lau Lee (photo) yesterday  rapped DAP for continuously poking its nose into MCA affairs and making allegations against the party that has been representing and fighting for wellbeing of the Chinese community in the country.

He said although MCA did not hold any government post at both state and federal level, the party still continued to serve the Chinese community.

“The MCA is just holding true to its principles when it decided not to hold any government post. This is because the party had vowed to do so should it fail to win and gain support from the Chinese community in the 13th general election.

“Even without any representative in the government, MCA still has its machinery at the branch, division and state levels, and hence it still has its ways and means to continue serving the Chinese community,” he said at the State Assembly sitting here yesterday.

MCALee said this when interjecting Leong Ngah Ngah’s (DAP-Tanah Rata) debate on the motion of thanks for the Royal Address by Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah when opening the first meeting of the first term of the 13th State Assembly yesterday.

Leong in his debate, alleged that MCA had ‘blackmailed’ the Barisan Nasional (BN) so that it could be ‘excused’ from holding any government post.

“The MCA’s decision not to take up any government post is not a blackmail… I want Tanah Rata MP to withdraw that ‘blackmail’ word,” Lau said.

DAPNot only Leong refused to withdraw the word, he continued proposing for any Chinese assemblyman, be it from MCA, DAP or PKR, to be appointed as state executive councillor to ensure wellbeing of the non-Malay community, especially the Chinese.

“In the United States, even President Barack Obama appointed his election opponent to be a part of his Cabinet line up,” Leong said.

At this point, State Public Amenities and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Soffi Abd Razak interjected, saying that Obama appointed his political enemy to be a part of his Cabinet line up because the enemy recognised and congratulated Obama’s victory.

“Unlike in Malaysia, the opposition refused to accept their lost, let alone to recognise BN’s victory. They are too busy staging demonstrations and making allegations,” he said.

State Culture and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin also interjected, asking the opposition to have an open mind and accept their lost.

“If BN can accept its lost in certain states, the opposition should do the same. The opposition has been promoting the ‘Ubah!’ (Change!) slogan during the general election, so, why don’t they practice what they preached?” he chided.
