KUALA LUMPUR, July 5- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) won the Excellence in ICT Management and Development Award at the Global Excellence in Management Awards (GEMA 2013), organised by the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM), here, yesterday.
Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek who was the guest-of-honour at the event, handed over the award to MCMC’s Corporate Services and Support chief officer, Tengku Zaib Raja Ahmad.
The Immigration Department won the Agency of The Year – Public Sector Award, the New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad received the Excellence in Media Management Award and Jakel Trading won the Excellence in Retail Management Award.
Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) president and group chief executive Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman received the Global CEO of the Year Award while Limkokwing University of Creative Technology founder Tan Sri Prof Emeritus Dr Lim Kok Wing won the Lifetime Achievement Award.
A total of 23 awards were given out at GEMA 2013, the objective of which is to recognise the best-in-class examples of best practices in management, skills appreciation, human capital development, research and development, sustainability, communication, finance and innovation. In his speech, Ahmad Shabery said the award was a showcase that Malaysia produced the best management and leadership which could inspire others to excel.
“I urge MIM to work closely with government and corporate sector so that we will have a solution for Malaysians’ employability,” he said.
MIM president Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar in his speech said MIM was committed to developing various talents in the country.
GEMA 2013 was to celebrate exemplary global leaders who unwaveringly execute exceptional management practices through innovation, creativity and transformation.
