GEORGE TOWN, Feb 5 – Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today advised the machinery at the Polling District Centres (PDM) in Penang to remain united and work together to strengthen the state’s Barisan Nasional (BN) machinery.
He said any rift among them would provide an opportunity for the enemies to attack and defeat BN. “Do not quarrel because if we are at logger-heads, it will be easy for the enemies to attack and defeat us. Avoid creating problems. If there is any, keep it and resolve the problems after the general election,” he said at a gathering and luncheon with the Penang PDM machinery, here today.
He said the PDM machinery should be focused on ensuring a win for BN. “We have sent them for courses and they should, by now, know how to work and plan their strategy,” he added.
He said the Penang people suffered under the opposition-led state government, which was said to be arrogant and also refused to listen to the people’s problems. At another function, Muhyiddin regarded the move by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in urging the people to wear either yellow, green or red shirt to the State BN Chinese New Year Open House as a ‘stupid act’.
“Why want to create trouble. Perhaps, his intention is not sincere,” he told reporters at a gathering with the Penang BN machinery. Yesterday, Lim called on the Penang people who wanted to attend the Chinese New Year Open House, where Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was also scheduled to attend, to wear those coloured shirts. Lim said yellow was to show support for Bersih, green for the environment and red for Penang.
Muhyiddin said the function would be held to celebrate Chinese New Year with emphasis on joy and unity, but it was politicised by the Penang chief minister. On foreign artistes being brought to provide entertainment at the function, Muhyiddin said he was informed that their presence was sponsored by the private sector. The open house will be held at the field of Sekolah Han Chiang and to add merriment and joy to the event, there will be performances by Psy, a South Korean artiste famous for the song “Gangnam Style”.
