SHAH ALAM, July 11- Selangor Menteri Besar Selangor Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today Selangor state executive councillors (excos) only need to make public declarations on asset transactions they make after they have been appointed to their posts.
In a statement here, he said the excos’ assets would be updated from time to time if there were new developments on asset or property purchases by them.
“This is adequate to ensure no exco abuses his position leading to conflict of interest,” he said.
However, he said the Selangor government would not prevent any exco from declaring assets to the public which were obtained before or after being appointed an exco even if this might not be deemed to be suitable.
He was responding to a report in the Roketkini.com portal yesterday which had quoted DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng as saying all three DAP excos in Selangor must declare their assets to the public irrespective of whether they were obtained while in office or not, in line with the party’s stand on transparency, accountability and integrity.
The three excos concerned are Datuk Teng Chang Khim (Local Government, Studies and Research); Ean Yong Hian Wah (Investment, Trade and Industry, New Villages Development and Whitening of Illegal Factories) and V.Ganabathirau ( Plantation Workers, Poverty and Caring Government) besides State Assembly Speaker Hannah Yeoh.
