The King later broke his fast and prayed with 1,000 members of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).
Also present at the ceremony were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom and acting Malaysian Armed Forces chief, General Datuk Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor.
Jamil Khir in his speech said the mosque, built in 1985, underwent upgrading works in 2007 which were fully completed in 2011 to accommodate the increasing congregation.
“The mosque could only accommodate 3,000 in its initial state but it now has a capacity for 10,000 people after the RM25 million upgrading of the mosque,” he said.
Jamil Khir said the mosque was named after a famous Muslim war general, Khalid Al-Walid.
“The fighting spirit and identity of Khalid Al-Walid are the core branding of the mosque.
“It is hoped that the fighting spirit of the famous Muslim general will inspire MAF members in their spiritual combat power,” he said.
