Agong To Attend 50th Malaysia Day Do In Kuching

KUCHING, Sept 12- The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah will attend the 50th Anniversary of Malaysia Day celebration here, Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu said on Wednesday.

agongHe said the royal couple was expected to arrive here on Sunday where they would witness a decorative boat procession on the Sarawak River in the evening before attending a grand parade at Padang Merdeka here, which would be the highlight of the celebration.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will also attend the celebration,” Jabu, who is also the organising chairman of the celebration, told a press conference, here.

He said this year’s celebration would be significant for Sarawak as it would reflect the progress that had been achieved by the state ever since it joined Sabah, Singapore and the Federation of Malaya to form Malaysia on Sept 16, 1963.

Themed “Harmonious Sarawak, Prosperity Enjoyed”, the celebration programme will kick off this Saturday with a parade at the State Stadium to mark the 92nd birthday of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng.
