Speaking while hosting members of the Muslim community at the State House here last Saturday for prayers and breaking of the fast, President Kenyatta recalled his pledge to Kenyans during the election campaigns, saying his deepest desire was to see Kenyans united.

He noted that he had invited Muslims to break their fast at the State House as an expression of solidarity with the Muslim community, whose members fast from dawn to dusk during the current Muslim holy month of Ramadhan.

The president reminded them that the time for politicking is over and it is his intention to consult them regularly on issues affecting them and the nation irrespective of their political background, and that it is his desire to work with all Kenyans in building a strong, prosperous and peaceful nation.

The President also donated 2.0 million shillings (about US$23,000) to the disadvantaged groups in the Muslim community.
