KUALA BESUT, July 22- The Kuala Besut state seat by-election campaigning has been recorded as the calmest so far with only four election offences reported to date, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Sunday.
One of the reports strangely involved the burning of both the contesting parties’ flags.
“It may have been the work of a third party wishing to provoke the situation. However, I hope this calm trend can be sustained till after the polling date,” he said after a security briefing at the Police Tactical Camp here today.
He said apart from cooperation by the contesting parties, the peaceful situation was also due to the presence of 2,789 police personnel mobilised from around the country.
The July 24 by-election is a straight fight between Barisan Nasional’s Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman and Endot@Azlan Yusof of PAS.
