KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 – The government will expand sports facilities for women, especially to those wearing the “tudung” or head scarf, to get more of them to venture into sports, including swimming.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said such a move was necessary to provide equal opportunities for those wanting to participate in sports.
“We have plans for that and some have been implemented, like gymnasium and other sports facilities under the Youth and Sports Ministry that are restricted for women on certain days,” he added.
He was responding to a supplementary question from Senator Khairiah Mohamed during the question and answer session.
Khairiah wanted to know whether the government had plans to provide sports facilities, especially for women wearing the scarf, .
