KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 – The two annual salary increments by the government this year will not only provide continuous benefits to civil servants while they are in service but also after they retire.

najibThe extra increment will enable civil servants to draw a bigger monthly salary and later enjoy a higher pension and gratuity after retirement.

For example, according to the Public Service Department, Post Service Division chart, a Grade N11 general office assistant would get an additional RM96 in their monthly pension and an increase of RM4,320 in gratuity as a result of these two increments.

In contrast, without the increments, the same personnel would only receive a maximum basic monthly salary of RM1,977.74 and gratuity of RM53,398.98 with a pension of RM1,186.64 upon retirement.

So in effect the two increments work out to a maximum basic monthly salary of RM2,137.74, gratuity of RM57,718.98 and pension of RM1,186.64.

Those eligible for the benefits of full pension and gratuity are officers who have served for at least 30 years (360 months).

With the two increments, the monthly increase in pension for an administrative assistant (N17) is RM114; assistant administrative officer (N27) RM174; and administrative and diplomatic officer (M54) RM384.

The additional gratuity would be RM5,130 for an administrative assistant; RM7,831 for assistant administrative officer; and RM17,280 for administrative and diplomatic officer.

Announcing the increments and special financial assistance for the coming Aidilfitri celebration Wednesday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said: “The benefit will be derived for the whole duration of their service. They will also receive a higher pension due to the two annual increments this year.”
