KEMAMAN, July 26- Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek today praised Kuala Besut voters for making the right choice of giving victory to the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abdul Rahman, in the state seat by-election yesterday.
He said he was proud of the voters’ wisdom and also some PAS members who acknowledged the good deeds done and services given by BN leaders by choosing Tengku Zaihan.
“Obviously, there was a swing in the by-election whereby there were PAS members who gave their votes to the BN candidate,” he said after the handing-out of zakat and Netbooks to students of Institut Pengajian Islam (INSPI) in Kampung Binjai, here, Thursday.
In the Kuala Besut state seat by-election yesterday, Tengku Zaihan defeated the PAS candidate Endot@Azlan Yusof by 2,592 votes.
Ahmad Shabery said the outcome of the by-election showed that Umno and BN were still the best choice for the people, who evidently rejected the opposition’s ridiculing of the country’s election process and its attempts to undermine the Election Commission. He hoped that all quarters would allow the elected government to continue with the nation’s development agenda and not find excuses to dispute the 13th General Election results.
The Umno Supreme Council member said that the victory in Kuala Besut also showed that “the Malays still love Umno and BN”.
