DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (UAE), July 31 – Emirates Integrated Telecommunications, or du, has received The International Green Apple Award for ‘build environment and architectural heritage’, for its du Shop in Fujairah City Centre, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.
The du Shop is the UAE’s first retail outlet to be Leader in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certified.
The green shop concept is in line with du’s efforts to adopt more sustainable practices, du said in a press release.
“It is an honour to have received this recognition from the prestigious Green Apple Awards,” said Abdulhadi Alalyak, Vice President, Asset Management of du, who received the award during a ceremony held in the United Kingdom.
“Our green retail concept is a step towards a more sustainable future for our company and our nation, and we are very proud that it has received such positive accolades from sustainability leaders,” he added.
LEED certification recognises only those projects that achieve the highest environmental ratings for sustainability, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, consumption of materials and resources, and indoor environment quality.
Based on a point system, the du Retail Shop exceeded LEED’s standards and was, therefore, awarded Platinum certification.
The Fujairah Retail Shop was designed, supervised and managed by Asset Management and Corporate Administrations (AMCA) projects’ team to achieve LEED certification.
