KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1- The assailant of Arab Malaysian Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi, 75, has been identified following the arrest of a taxi driver in Sri Petaling here yesterday.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the suspect believed to go by the name of “Ah Chian” was now being sought by police and members of the public are urged to share any information they may have on him.
“According to our information, the suspect is believed move frequently in the Taman Maluri area in Cheras (here),” he told a news conference here on wednesday.
On the taxi driver, Ku said the 44-year-old suspect was detained at midnight yesterday to facilitate investigations into the case.
“The suspect had driven the assailant from the scene of the shooting,” he said.
He said the police will also call up individuals who last saw Hussain Ahmad and his wife at the temple where they were before the shooting for their statements to be recorded.
In the incident on Monday, Hussain Ahmad was killed while his wife, Chong Mei Kuen, 49, sustained serious injuries when they were shot from a close distance at a parking lot after leaving the Kuan Yin Temple in Lorong Ceylon, here.
