AUG 15- Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said development in the country cannot be imagined without participation of women.
“Bringing about a change in the country and its development cannot be imagined without participation of women,” Rahul said here.
Rahul, who is Member of Parliament (MP) from Amethi, on Wednesday visited the area to take part in women self-help group programme.
He arrived at Fursatganj airport this afternoon.
On his way to Jais to attend the programme, Rahul took a brief halt at Akelwa crossing and listened to the grievances of a group 40 women. The women complained about local issues and rising prices of food items.
They also demanded a halt of passenger trains in Akelwa area and construction of roads.
Later, while addressing a two-day training camp of about 200 women participants, Rahul stressed on linking more and more women with the self-help groups.
He stressed that “development of the country and brining about a change could not be thought without the participation of women.”
“The main aim is to make women self reliant for which continued efforts are being made through the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Mahila Vikas Pariyojana’ and the results are good,” the Congress leader said.
He said that women will have to come forward for the development of the country and society.
