PETALING JAYA, Aug 16 – The DAP’s tactic in delaying re-election of its Central Executive Committee (CEC) members, despite an order from the Registrar of Societies (ROS), was to deliberately politicise the issue, noted Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.
Although the party’s eventual decision (to agree to the re-election) was right, he however, questioned why the matter was unnecessarily prolonged.
“In fact, the matter was made an issue to gain the sympathy of the people before the 13th General Election but they complied in the end,” said Khairy, who is also youth and sports minister.
He was speaking to reporters after launching the Malaysia Public Policy Competition here Friday.
On July 30, the ROS ordered DAP to hold its CEC election again as it was not satisfied with the explanation provided by the party on allegations of voting irregularities and manipulation involving 547 delegates in the party election on Dec 15.
Nonetheless, the party in its earlier stance, repeatedly defended the election as clean, and that the mistake was merely a technical error. On the competition, Khairy hoped that in line with the issue of ‘brain drian’, participants from the younger generation could produce creative ideas to assist the government.
The three-day competition on ‘Brain Drain’ which began today, was participated by 80 Malaysian students from universities the world over, to draft a public policy on ‘brain drain’.
