YAN, Aug 19- Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom yesterday confirmed that he will be contesting for an Umno Supreme Council seat at the party’s polls in October.
He said he made the decision after considering views and requests including from the grassroots, that there should be a representative for the religious group in the Umno central leadership.
“I offer myself in full sincerity to help and strengthen the party,” he told reporters at his Aidilfitri open house in Guar Chempedak here Sunday.
Meanwhile, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said he would be defending his seat in the supreme council.
“I want to represent the farmers, fishermen, livestock farmers and breeders in voicing their concerns to the government,” he said after attending the Bera Umno branch cluster meeting here today.
In KEMAMAN, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, who is also state Ummo chief, welcomed Besut MP Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh’s decision to defend his Supreme Council (MT) seat at the polls.
He said Terengganu Umno hoped Idris, who is also Second Education Minister, and Kemaman MP and Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek would be successful in defending their MT seats.
He was speaking to reporters at the Aidifitri Open house of Eastern Pacific Industrial Corporation (EPIC) Bhd, in Teluk Kalong, Kemaman.
Idris recently had announced his intention to defend his MT seat and hoped that Terengganu Umno would throw its full support behind him.
In, JOHOR BAHARU, speaking to reporters after attending a Johor Umno liaison committee meeting chaired for the first time by Johor Menteri Besar and state Umno chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Batu Pahat Umno head Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi also said that he would be defending his MT seat.
