ALOR GAJAH, Aug 21- Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil should remain as Wanita Umno chief to facilitate her looking after women’s lot which she has been doing since assuming the post in 2009, said a Melaka Wanita Umno leader.
State executive councillor in charge of Women, Family Development and Welfare Matters, Datuk Latipah Omar said Shahrizat was capable of continuing these good efforts and all the initiatives she had undertaken such as the Sayang Squad, with positive results.
Latifah, who is the Masjid Tanah Umno division Wanita chief, said Shahrizat had also undertaken various successful initiatives for women, especially the less fortunate, when she was women, family and community development minister.
“She has tirelessly fought for women’s rights and plight, and a lot of assistance have been channelled to grassroots women since helming the ministry and Wanita Umno,” she said when contacted, here, Tuesday.
Shahrizat became Wanita Umno head on March 25, 2009 when she defeated the incumbent Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz in the party elections.
Meanwhile, Latipah will be contesting for a Wanita Umno Malaysia executive committee (exco) post in the coming party elections.
“I hope to help form a formidable combination of new and veteran Wanita leaders in looking after the interests of women,” she said.
Latipah was a Wanita Umno exco member from 1996 to 1999.
The Umno Youth, Wanita and Puteri assemblies are scheduled for Oct 12.
