KENINGAU, Aug 26- The government must reconsider the approval to set up 20 new political parties as it can cause long term repercussions, said Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.’
He said it was reported that 20 political parties were approved by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) which could cause major changes to political demography, specifically in Sabah.
Pairin, who is also Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president, said this when opening the annual general meeting of Bingkor and Liawan PBS at the community hall in Keningau here Sunday.
He said, prior to this, every political party which was set up was based on the aspirations of the people and not in the interests of individuals.
The Member of Parliament for Keningau also said a study would be carried out on this development and its effect on the younger generation in the future.
