KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3- The Umno Dispilinary Board will take action against candidates who resort to personal attacks or money politics in party polls.
Its chairman, Tengku Tan Sri Ahmad Rithauddeen said any candidate found guilty by the Disciplinary Board Tribunal would be punished under Article 20.9 of the Umno Constitution.
He said it was learned that some members resorted to personal attacks during the branch, division and Supreme Council polls since July 15.
This has led to an unhealthy contest and gave a negative perception of Umno to members at the grassroots level, he said in a statement on Monday.
“For example, many candidates vying for party posts discredit contenders through the media and alternative media. This is prohibited under Article 5.3 of the Umno Code of Ethics,” he added.
Tengku Ahmad Rithauddeen said reports submitted by a monitoring committee on violations of the code of ethics and election rules would be taken into account in deciding on the course of actions against offenders to safeguard the party.
