GUA MUSANG, Sept 4- The Gua Musang Umno Division is bent on retaining Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah as its chief in the party elections in October.
Its secretary, Ab Aziz Yusof, said Tuesday it had been decided at the monthly meetings of the division that respect be accorded to Tengku Razaleigh as the longest-serving leader of the people of Gua Musang.
“As such, there is no reason for anyone to stand against Tengku Razaleigh in the October elections as he (Tengku Razaleigh) can still fulfill his responsibilities as the leader of the division.
“We are disappointed that some ungrateful leaders have expressed their intention to challenge Tengku Razaleigh,” he told reporters after an Aidilfitri celebration with former members of the Senoi Praaq police unit comprising the Orang Asli in Lojing near here.
Tengku Razaleigh had said last Friday that the time had come for him to hand over to a new leader the post of Gua Musang Umno Division chief that he had held for almost 50 years.
