KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president G Palanivel said it is a waste of time revealing the details on the secret discussion between Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and the party’s top leaders.
Palanivel was responding to central committee member KP Samy’s call to reveal the details on what was discussed between Najib and the party leaders.
“I’m not interested to discuss about it. KP Samy has got no better work to do,” said Palanivel, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.
Yesterday, KP Samy sent an official letter to the MIC headquarters urging the party’s top leaders reveal what transpired in a meeting between MIC top leaders and Najib.
After the meeting, MIC deputy president Dr S Subramaniam said he would not challenge Palanivel for the presidency.
It was said that Subramaniam was gaining good grounds among the party grassroots to challenge Palanivel, until Najib intervened to avoid a split in the party.
Palanivel won the presidency without contest with nearly4,000 branch chairmen voting in favour of the incumbent.
On another matter, Palanivel said the Department of Environment (DOE) would take action against those responsible for the diesel spill in Sungai Selangor, which caused severe water supply disruption in several areas in Klang Valley.
“I have instructed my director-general to look into the matter and also to ensure that the maximum penalty be imposed on those responsible for it,” said Palanivel, who is the Natural Resources and Enviroment Minister.
Last week, the diesel spill in Sungai Selangor forced the closure of several water treatment plants, affecting consumers in Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor.
