KUALA TERENGGANU, Sept 12- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak will launch the Walk For Malaysia (Walk4Malaysia) programme this Friday at his office in Putrajaya.
Najib will hand over the Jalur Gemilang and Terengganu state flag to the 120 participants taking part in the 13-day programme organised by the Terengganu government in which they will walk from Kuala Besut in Terengganu to Putrajaya from Sept 22.
The event’s main organising committee chairman, Roshali Taha told a press conference, in Kuala Terengganu, Wednesday that Walk4Malaysia was aimed at showing the people’s support for the leadership of the prime minister and Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said after the 13th General Election.
He said among the participants would be Yayasan Islam Terengganu (YIT), Besut branch staff Mohd Noor Mat, 47, who would be fulfilling a vow to walk from Kuala Besut to Putrajaya on Barisan Nasional’s victory in the Kuala Besut state seat by-election on July 24.
The participants will walk for 600 km from Dataran Kuala Besut, Besut for as long as eight hours per day from 8am to 5pm, and they will stop at 13 pre-determined destinations before continuing their walk the next day until they reach their final destination, Putrajaya, on Oct 4.
There, they will be received by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar at the grounds of the ministry.
Roshali said 30 government agencies and several non-governmental organisations were involved in the programme, where 10 tahfiz students from the Terengganu Youth Council would also be reciting 30 chapters of the Quran and “khatam” at least three times for the duration of the programme.
He said among the sponsors of the programme were the Terengganu government’s subsidiary companies like Terengganu Incoprated, Epic Berhad, Konsortium Pelabuhan Kemaman Berhad, TDM Berhad, Golden Pharos Berhad and Percetakan YIT Berhad.
