SEPT 18- Miss New York Nina Davuluri recently won the 2014 Miss America Pageant. She’s the first Miss America of Indian descent to have managed this feat.
While this is great news for us Indians, citizens of America have other other views.
Most took to Twitter to voice their dislike and contempt over a non-American bagging the long-standing title that has till now only been awarded to Americans from the 50 US states.
Nina was called an ‘Arab’, a ‘terrorist, and a ‘foreigner’ amongst other things.
Some of shocking tweets that make the contempt palpable include: ‘Congratulations Al-Qaeda. Our Miss America is one of you’; ‘So miss america is a terrorist’; ‘Miss America? You mean Miss 7-11’; and ‘9/11 was 4 days ago and she gets miss America?’. Need we say more.
So much for the title, eh?
