PEKAN, Sept 21 – Besides defending his post as Umno president, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will also defend the post of Pekan Umno division head in the party election next month.
His nomination forms for the divisional head post was submitted through his representative, Pekan Umno division secretary Datuk Zainal Abidin Pa’ Wan, at the Pekan Umno building, here shortly after 10am.
It was submitted to the chairman of the Pahang Umno Special Election Committee, Datuk Seri Abdul Jabbar Ibrahim.
Najib, 60, has been holding the post of Pekan Umno division head since 1982.
Zainal Abidin, when met by reporters after submitting the forms, said the Pekan Umno division fully supported Najib’s nomination at the divisional and central levels.
Meanwhile, Najib’s nomination forms for the Umno president’s post in the party elections were submitted by his representative at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur at 8 Saturday morning.
Last Thursday, when announcing his intention to defend the president’s post, he said the decision was made based on the wide support and trust voiced by party members including at the grassroots level.
