KOTA KINABALU, Sept 24 – The Election Court here today postponed the hearing of a petition filed by Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Isnin Aliasnih to annul the 13th general election result for the Klias state seat which was won by Datuk Lajim Ukin, from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
Judge Datuk Yew Jen Kee made the decision after lawyer Datuk Chau Chin Tang, representing Lajim, submitted an objection on the petition.
Chau said the petition was not filed by Isnin or his lawyer and for that, it did not meet Regulation 9 and 34 of the Election Petition Rules 1954.
Yew then set this Wednesday for decision on the preliminary objection.
At today’s proceeding, which was fixed for hearing of the petition, Isnin was represented by a panel of lawyers comprising Jaafar Esteban, Rizuan M Borhan and Saiful Azian Mokhtar, while Lajim was also represented by Datuk Lawrence Thien.
In the May 5 general election, Lajim won the Klias seat with a majority of 179 votes.
