MELAKA, Sept 25- Baddrul Hissham Abdul Aziz who had offered to contest for the post Tangga Batu Umno division chief against incumbent, Chief Minister Datuk Idris Haron, has withdrawn his candidacy.

datuk-idrisMelaka Umno Election Monitoring Committee chairman Tan Sri Ahmad Nordin said Baddrul Hissham, 45, who is also a Tok Suboh Umno branch member, had submitted his letter of withdrawal two days ago.

“It is true, he (Baddrul Hissham) has submitted a letter (of withdrawal). This leaves Datuk Idris Haron as the sole candidate for the post of Tangga Batu Umno division chief,” he said when contacted by Bernama here yesterday.

At the nomination registration process at the Melaka International Trade Centre last Saturday, Idris and Baddrul Hissham had submitted their nomination forms to contest for the post of the Tangga Batu division chief.

Asked if Baddrul Hissham’s withdrawal meant Idris won uncontested for the post, Ahmad said: “Only the Umno headquarters can decide that”.

Ahmad said Baddrul Hissham’s letter of withdrawal was the only one received by the monitoring committee.

To a question as to when the list of candidates contesting in the coming election for Melaka would be issued, he said it would be decided by the Umno Headquarters.

Melaka has six Umno divisions, and with Baddrul Hissham’s withdrawal, only four divisions namely Masjid Tanah, Alor Gajah, Bukit Katil and Jasin will see contests for the post of division head.

State Communication, Unity, Consumer Affairs and Cooperative Committee chairman Datuk Latiff Tamby Chik won uncontested the post of Kota Melaka Umno division chief.
