KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 – There has been no change in the five-way fight for the Umno Youth chief post in Umno’s polls next month following none of the candidates challenging incumbent Khairy Jamaluddin withdrawing after the 72-hour cooling off period since nomination on Saturday ended Tuesday.
The four challengers are Pusat Bandar Taman Chempaka Umno branch Youth assistant secretary Syed Rosli Syed Harman Jamallulail, Bendang Baru branch Umno Youth head Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah Sanusi, former Merbok Umno Youth chief Abd Karim Ali and Bukit Setiawangsa branch Umno Youth head Irwan Ambak Khalid Izhar.
The announcement on the candidates for the post was made by Umno Elections Committee chairman Tan Sri Tajol Rosli Ghazali at Umno’s headquarters at the Putra World Trade Centre here Wednesday.
As for the vice chief post, the contest still remains a four-corner fight with Lokman Noor Adam, Khairul Azwan Harun, Jamawi Jaafar and Mohamad Iruan Zulkefli vying for the post.
All in all 94 candidates are vying for the top leadership posts in Umno Youth in including for permanent chairman, deputy permament chairman and 20 executive committee seats.
Polls for Umno’s three wings – Youth, Wanita and Puteri – will be held simultaneously on Oct 12.
