TAMPIN, Sept 27- Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has suggested that the party’s election committee and disciplinary board review the conditions set for candidates contesting for posts in the party elections this time.

Khairy-JamaluddinHe said this was because there were many complaints from Umno Youth members that the conditions set for candidates contesting in the party elections were just too tight that they were unable to campaign, hold gatherings with the delegates and could only attend official functions organised by the respective state liaison committees.

“As a young generation in Umno, the Youth members would want more freedom. That’s why we cannot set conditions that are too tight.

“Today, we have social media but since we cannot personally campaign, what we do through the social media is the same,” he said after a goodwill meeting with Tampin Umno Youth members, here, Thursday.

Khairy said the important thing was for candidates to campaign in a civil manner and if there were those who resorted to personal attacks, slander and money politics, action should definitely be taken against them.

On Umno Youth’s Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz who was dropped from the list of candidates for the party’s supreme council seats, reportedly for not meeting the minimum requirement set, Khairy said he had appealed to the party management committee chairman Tan Dri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said yesterday he had also discussed the matter with the Umno election committee chairman Tan Sri Tajol Rosli Ghazali.
