DUBAI, Oct 1 – China’s information and communications technology solutions provider Huawei on Monday launched its first Mideast logistics hub in Dubai’s free port zone Jebel Ali, Xinhua news agency reported.
Peng Xiongji, Huawei’s general manager for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said at the launch ceremony attended by China’s Consul General in Dubai Tang Weibin and over 200 members of the local business community that the centre would initially focus on customers in the telecommunications sector.
The latest facility will shorten deliveries by around 30 days for ocean shipments and meet urgent delivery requests from regional customers.
In the first three years, the hub will serve Huawei’s markets in the Gulf region and Middle East before expanding to parts of Africa such as Kenya and Tanzania.
The company has announced to invest an additional US$20 million or more in expansion plans over the next three years.
Huawei established its headquarters in the Middle East 10 years ago in Bahrain.
The Middle East is one of the fastest growing markets for Huawei, generating US$2.08 billion revenues last year, an 18-percent increase year on year.
