Kuala Lumpur, Oct 29 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak hoped all Malaysians in Manchester remain safe amid the weather system, dubbed the St Jude storm which lashed southern England and Wales on Monday.
“(I) had to cancel my trip to Manchester due to St Jude storm. Hope all Malaysians there stay safe,” he said on his Twitter account.
He was supposed to kick-off his first day working visit to Manchester on Monday.
The storm, said to be the worst recorded in Britain in a decade, brought winds up to 160km per hour. Media reports said the storm also battered the Netherlands.
Malaysian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Datuk Seri Zakaria Sulong had said that about 1,000 Malaysians studying at affected areas in the United Kingdom were safe.
Najib, who arrived in London early Sunday morning from Kuala Lumpur, is currently on a working visit to the UK until Oct 31.
