Yan, Oct 31 -Former Jerai Umno division chief Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah has denied a suggestion that the division is split following his failure to defend his post in the party polls recently.
Mohd Suhaimi said he and the new Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom had no conflict and in fact, they had been working together in the Sungai Limau state by-election campaign.
“There is no split. Now that Datuk Seri Jamil and I can work together, the grassroots members have closed ranks,” he told Bernama when met at the Barisan Nasional (BN) operation centre here Wednesday.
However, Mohd Suhaimi did not deny that there were election bruises during the tussle for the Jerai Umno division chief post on Oct 19, but the supporters had since reunited to ensure the BN victory in the by-election.
Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Tun Mahathir, who is the BN election director for the by-election, has appointed Mohd Suhaimi as deputy election director to assist him in the battle.
Mohd Suhaimi has been seen together with Jamil Khir, who is also minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, in several BN campaign rounds to introduce BN candidate Dr Ahmad Sohami Lazim.
In the 2004 general election, Mohd Suhaimi lost to Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak in the tussle for the Sungai Limau state seat.
