Bangkok, Nov 21 – China will import 1.2 million tonnes of Thai rice over the next two years, Thai News Agency (TNA) reported.
Under a government-to-government (G2G) deal signed between the Ministry of Commerce’s Department of Foreign Trade and Bejing Great Northern Widerness Rice Industry Company here Wednesday, China will purchase 1.2 million tonnes of five-per cent white rice and broken-milled rice and 90,000 tonnes of tapioca from Thailand.
The two-year agreement will see monthly shipments of 50,000 tonnes of farm produce with first delivery to the Chinese market expected next month.
China is reportedly importing Thai farm products for domestic consumption or re-exporting to other foreign markets.
