Denpasar (Bali), Nov 22 – The number of Australian tourists visiting Bali has fallen over the past three months, Indonesian news agency ANTARA reported.

The Bali tourism office registered 74,634 tourist arrivals from Australia in July this year with numbers decreasing to 71,701 in August and 67,684 in October.

However, a tour operator believes the fall in tourist numbers is “normal”.

“It’s normal for the number of tourist arrivals to fluctuate,” said businessman Tjok Gede Agung on Friday.

Tjok said the decrease in overseas tourists was not due to the spying row between Australia and Indonesia and attributed it to global economic conditions.

Overall, the number of Australian tourists to Bali remain high at 668,902 in the first ten months of the year, down 2.25 percent from 684,312 over the same period last year.

Chinese visitors have continued to increase with 329,426 arrivals from January to October, up 23.22 percent from last year.
