85 Injured In Hong Kong Ferry Accident

Hong Kong, Nov 29 – A total of 85 people were reported to have been injured in a ferry accident early Friday near Hei Ling Chau island of China’s Hong Kong, Xinhua news agency reported.

A hydrofoil carrying over 100 passengers and 10 crew members left Hong Kong to China’s Macao at 1 a.m. and hit an unidentified object some twenty minutes later.

The vessel was later towed back to the Hong Kong-Macao Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan.

Those injured were sent to hospitals by medical staff waiting there, according to ferry company TurboJet.

TurboJet’s manager Wong Man-chung said it was unclear what the hydrofoil had hit.

No major damage to the vessel has been reported.

Hong Kong’s marine office is conducting investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident.
