Singapore, Dec 12- Chennai-based Sun TV network editor-in-charge R. Umashankar has apologised over erroneous coverage of Sunday night’s riot in Little India.

Umashankar, in his response via email to Singapore’s Consul-General in Chennai, Roy Kho, said he also took responsibility for the incorrect news.

In the email released by Singapore’s ministry of foreign affairs today, he said:

“…there was absolutely no intention on our (Sun TV) part to do anything that will spoil the centuries-old cordial and friendly relationship among various communities living in Singapore.”

In its 7pm bulletin Monday, Sun TV erroneously reported that an Indian national who died on Sunday in Little India was pushed out of the bus by the female bus driver.

The report said Singaporeans and Chinese attacked the foreign Indian nationals who were now hiding in their homes for fear of being harassed by the police or attacked by locals.
