Kuala Lumpur, Dec 18- PAS announced the appointment of its deputy president Mohamad Sabu as the party’s new commissioner for Penang.
PAS information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar told Bernama the appointment was for the 2013-2015 term.
“Like in the other states, the appointment of Mat Sabu is to give the opportunity to a new face in Penang,” he said.
In BUTTERWORTH, former Penang PAS commissioner Datuk Mohd Salleh Man called on the party’s leaders and members in the state to extend their cooperation to Mohamad Sabu.
The Permatang Pasir assemblyman said the PAS central committee had made the right decision in appointing Mohamad Sabu as the party’s new commissioner for Penang.
“I have led Penang PAS for seven years and the time has come for me to give the opportunity to another leader such as Mat Sabu to lead the party in the state. I am prepared to work with him,” he said.
Mohd Salleh said he hoped that Mohamad Sabu would strengthen the relationship among the three parties of Pakatan Rakyat in Penang so that PAS’s agenda in the state would not be inhibited.
Mohd Salleh, who is the president of the Penang Islamic Affairs Council, also said that the Penang Mufti Office had yet to receive any complaint or report on the spread of the Syiah ideology in the state.
