Kuala Lumpur, Dec 31 – The police have stepped up patrols in the city and are monitoring several locations in the effort to thwart any attempt to stage illegal rallies allegedly aimed at toppling the government.
Dang Wangi OCPD ACP Zainulddin Ahmad, when contacted by Bernama, said they were focusing on areas such as the Sogo shopping centre, Masjid Jamek and Central Market as these were the places where the crowds initially gathered.
“The police have made all the preparations. We have deployed our men to handle any gathering,” he said.
A check by Bernama found several policemen in full operational gear on patrol around Dataran Merdeka, one of the venues for tonight’s countdown to the new year.
