Putrajaya, Jan 10 – Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan received an official welcome at Dataran Perdana here today, in conjunction with his three-day visit to Malaysia, which began Thursday.
He was greeted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak upon arrival at 10.45am, before the national anthems of Malaysia and Turkey were played.
Erdogan then inspected the guard of honour comprising 106 officers and personnel from the 1st Batallion of the Royal Malay Regiment.
Also present to welcome him were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa and other cabinet ministers.
Erdogan and Najib then proceed to Level Five of the Perdana Putra building to begin a bilateral meeting discussing matters of interest to both countries.
The visit is made upon invitation from Najib in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia and Turkey’s diplomatic relations.
It is also part of Erdogan’s visit to Asia, including Japan and Singapore.
The Turkish Prime Minister is also scheduled to deliver a talk titled ‘Transforming the Asia Pacific and Turkey’ during the Tun Abdul Razak lecture series organised by the Transformation Reseacrh Foundation and Razak School of Government.
He will also receive an Honorary Doctorate in Management from the International Islamic University Malaysia.
