Kuala Lumpur, Jan 16- Academician Royal Professor Ungku Aziz Ungku Abdul Hamid denied allegations that he was the writer of the “kangkung” statement that went viral on Twitter and Facebook.
Describing the allegations as mean and propaganda to tarnish his amicable relationship with the government, especially Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Ungku Aziz said he had no time for something so unbeneficial.
“I deny it 100 per cent. It is a lie in which my name and photograph was used for other people’s interests…I don’t have a Twitter account and I did not make any such statement.
“I don’t know who did it and for what purpose. This is propaganda to strain my relationship with the prime minister and it’s mean,” he told Bernama here.
The statement which had spread on social media and websites quoted the writing, alleged to be penned by the academician, following Najib’s explanation on the rising price of goods when speaking at an aid presentation ceremony for flood victims in Kemaman last Sunday.
Commenting further, Ungku Aziz said allegations that the statement was his could be questioned as he was more inclined to writing ‘pantun’ (quatrains) than poems.
When asked if he will take legal action on the misuse of his identity, he said he had no plans to do so.
“I don’t plan to take any further action. I hope that this statement will be enough to stop any further misuse of my identity.
“To those who love propaganda, I advise then to stop such unhealthy activities,” he added.
