New Delhi, Jan 19- Newspapers and websites across the world reacted with shock on the passing of Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor, who was found dead in a New Delhi hotel on Friday, a few days after her Twitter spat with Pakistan journalist Mehr Tarar.

Under the header ‘Sunanda Tharoor found dead’ carried in reverse on its Page 1, Gulf daily Khaleej Times said, “Tharoor and his wife have been at the centre of a raging row over the past few days, with the controversial Sunanda accusing her husband of cheating on her and having an affair with the Pakistani journalist.” The paper also ran a story on Mehr, the 45-year-old Lahore-based journalist, who it said, was “shocked” over the death.

The report also talks about the 2010 IPL controversy, involving Tharoor and Sunanda.

Gulf News, another leading daily from the region, had it as the lead story under the headline ‘Indian minister Tharoor’s wife found dead’. “The death has stoked renewed speculation over their relationship barely 24 hours after the two declared they were ‘happily married’,” the paper said.

The websites of Pakistan newspapers Dawn and The News ran the story prominently on their home pages.

UK’s Independent also talked about the rumoured affair between Tharoor and Tarar, saying the latter had dismissed claims and said she was surprised that the minister’s wife had been making such accusations.

Calling the incident “tragic”, the report said Pushkar had claimed that she was suffering from Lupus, an auto-immune disease that can attack any part of the body.

Describing Tharoor as the most active user of Twitter, the Independent said the platform has harmed him thrice, once during the IPL row and when he joked about “cattle class”.
