143 Cases Recorded, 37 Compound Notices Issued On Second Day Of Ops Harga

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 23- A total of 37 notices were issued to traders, involving seizures of goods worth RM17,013.04, on the second day of Ops Harga 2014, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek said Wednesday.

He said a total of 9,552 premises were inspected nationwide and 143 cases recorded for offences under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (100 cases), Weights and Measures Act 1972 (41 cases) and the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.

“Sabah records the most cases at 37, followed by Perak (25), Johor (16), Selangor (15), Kelantan (10), Terengganu (nine), Negeri Sembilan (eight), Pahang (six), Putrajaya (five), Sarawak (four), three each in Labuan and Penang, and two in Kedah,” he told Bernama here.

On the notices, he said, 19 were issued in Negeri Sembilan, followed by Sabah (eight), Selangor (five), Pahang (four) and Kedah (one).

The second day of Ops Harga involved checks at 3,802 wet markets nationwide, with checks also conducted at night markets (2,325), farmers’ markets (1,313), groceries (1,073), wholesalers (100), manufacturers (2).

Checks were also conducted at restaurants, food stalls, hypermarkets and supermarkets.

On the first day of the operation, 7,142 premises were checked with 122 cases recorded and 38 notices issued.

This brings to 62,849, the number of premises which were inspected by officers from the ministry since early this year, during which 749 cases were recorded, 83 notices issued and RM86,753.17 worth of goods seized.
