New Dehli, March 1- The Congress ward member Bonti, who kissed party vice-president Rahul Gandhi during his Assam visit few days back, was burnt to death by her husband on Friday.
Following the incident, the husband tried to set ablaze himself also and was rushed to the nearest hospital with serious burn injuries.
According to initial reports, the couple had an heated argument over the kissing incident after which husband set ablaze the woman.
Bonti came into limelight for kissing Rahul Gandhi during his Assam visit on Wednesday.
The Congress vice-president Rahul is criss-crossing the country to revive his party’s fortunes ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
He was welcomed with kisses on his cheek and on his head at Jorhat in Assam on Wednesday.
The young Congress was slightly embarrassed after two women came closer to him, kissed on his cheek and forehead, while he was interacting with women.
The Gandhi scion pleasantly shook hands with women supporters, who seemed to be very happy at finding him in their midst.
According to reports, Rahul had met 600 self-help groups. He was quoted by media as saying that said northeastern women are “more talented” than others, adding, that women of this country can become the prime minister and chief minister.
While talking of women empowerment, Gandhi spoke of 50 per cent reservation for them in Parliament and state assemblies.
