MAS ‘GO TEAM’ arrive in Beijing to provide emotional support

MAS logo 440 x 215BEIJING, March 9 — The Malaysia Airlines (MAS) ‘Go Team’, comprising 93 caretakers and volunteers, has arrived in Beijing to provide emotional support and assistance to family members of passengers in MH370 which went missing early yesterday.

The team, which departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 4.30pm, arrived at Beijing International Airport at 10.45pm Saturday, MAS spokesperson, Ignatius Ong told a press conference here at 1.30am Sunday.

“We are closely monitoring the situation here in Beijing as most of the passengers onboard are Chinese,” he said.

Ong reiterated the airline failed to find any wreckage so far, but the search and rescue efforts were still being carried out. He also said MAS was currently working closely with authorities from Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and the navy from the United States and China on the search and rescue efforts.

Ong added that MAS would fly the next-of-kin of passengers to the location when the aircraft was to be found, and all the expenses would be borne by the national carrier (MAS).

The MH370 aircraft from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, which carried 227 passengers and 12 crew members, disappeared from the radar screen after taking off from the KL International Airport at 12.41am. It should have landed in Beijing at 6.30am.
