KUALA LUMPUR, April 1- Pakatan Rakyat leaders have not been informed whether tonight’s MH370 briefing for opposition MPs has been cancelled because Acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein is attending an Asean defence ministers’ meeting in Hawaii.
The Pakatan MPs said this showed that Barisan Nasional was not serious about MH370.
“We only want Hishammuddin. If they are going to send another officer, or the deputy defence minister, then we will not attend,” DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said Hishammuddin, as the minister in charge of the MH370 tragedy, must be present at the briefing and should not “run away” to Hawaii.
The Opposition MPs had only read news reports that Hishammuddin was still in Hawaii and assumed he would be unable to attend the special briefing.
Lim said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim had arranged for tonight’s meeting on MH370.
“We just found out that Hishammuddin is still in Hawaii for meeting with Asean defence ministers. This shows BN is not serious in this matter,” said the Gelang Patah MP.
Azmin said opposition MPs wanted to help the government in the search and rescue mission, especially in light of all the contradicting statements made by the various agencies.
Lim said the conflicting statements on the flight’s turn back, and the final spoken words of the pilot, did not inspire confidence among the people.
“This is why it is vital that Hishammuddin provide the latest MH370 development to parliamentarians,” he said.
