Pos Malaysia launches Malaysia-China 40th Anniversary special first day covers

20140531PKUALA LUMPUR, May 28 – Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia) today launched special first day cover envelopes with stamps and files in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.

Pos Niaga Chief Operating Officer, Bahaman Kamaruzzaman said the envelopes would be officially released on May 31, the date Malaysia and China established diplomatic ties during the tenure of Malaysia’s second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein in 1974.

“However, the limited editions of envelopes and files will only be available for sale at Pos Malaysia outlets around June 2,” he said at the launch of the envelope at the Pos Malaysia headquarters here today.

He said the production of such memorabilia was the third of its kind after the first set released on the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between

Malaysia and China and the second during the 35th anniversary.

Only 35,000 envelopes and 2,000 pieces of special files will be sold at 704 Pos Malaysia outlets nationwide in conjunction with the anniversary .

The special envelopes will be sold together with the stamps sized 70mm x 35mm at RM1.90 a piece while the special file will be sold separately at RM6 per piece.

The envelopes, stamps and files were designed by Reign Associates Sdn Bhd.

The designs on the envelope feature two stamps with a picture of Putra Perdana, Putrajaya and the Great Hall of the People in Beijing and the image of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and President Xi Jinping of China shaking hands as well as the coat of arms of Malaysia and China.

“Stamp collectors are encouraged to register as members of Standing Order Deposit Account (Soda) to obtain stamps and other philatelic products released by Pos Malaysia so that they don’t have to queue at the counter on the day of release.

“As of today, we have 9,000 Soda active members and after they get these limited special editions, only 26,000 pieces will remain, thus, the public must immediately register with Soda to get their special editions,” he added.

The prime minister is currently in China for a six-day official visit in conjunction with the 40th anniversary.
