Akhilesh-Yadav1Lucknow, June 3 – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has ordered the setting up of women’s helpline in all districts of the state and has said that SSPs/SPs will be monitoring the helpline.

Women facing harassment or any other form of violence can approach this helpline and a probe would be conducted by the women’s cell of the police. All such probes will also be monitored by district police chiefs.

Giving these directions, the Chief Minister added that the state government was committed to protecting the honour of the women and ensuring their safety. He also warned that people behind harassment of women will not be spared at any cost and prompt action would be initiated against them.

He also directed that in case of an unfortunate incident of rape, senior police and district officers should reach the crime scene and ensure immediate arrest of the culprits and security and safety of the victims.

Chief Minister further said that incidents such as rape were inhuman and serious criminal offences and pointed out that such cases should be pursued through fast track courts and justice expedited.

He also directed district magistrates to oversee the process of justice in these fast track courts and also ensure that government counsels are present in the case and ensure that such criminals are brought to justice at the earliest.

Yadav has also directed officers to ensure adequate security to the rape victim and her family.  He further said that if anyone from the side of the accused tries to intimidate and threaten the victim or her family, action should be taken under the National Security Act (NSA) so that the rape victim and her family get full security and safety.

The Chief Minister also instructed prompt and strict compliance of the directives. The directions were given after the UP government came under severe criticism following gang rape and murder of two teenaged girls in Badaun district of the state.
